2014 marked a turning point in the way businesses approached mobile applications. From fashion to software development to startups, companies across all industries released a huge amount of content and software. These businesses realized a new sales channel had been found – not to mention a new way to communicate with clients.

We decided to find out whether or not mobile applications were still relevant for today’s businesses in 2016. Do businesses still need their own mobile app to improve sales and communicate with customers?

For our research, we looked at B2C companies in the broadest sense. We analyzed who is buying these products today– and who will buy these products in the future.

Does the next generation of millennials care whether or not a business has an app? Do older generations even download company apps? Without further ado, let’s answer those questions with the numbers listed below.

One of the most important things to get from this research is that people don’t install a business’s mobile app if they’re uninterested in the company. The users who install a business’s mobile apps tend to be their most loyal customers.

Remember: while you’re deciding whether or not to build a mobile app for your business, your competitors are already developing their own.
